My training with HypnoTC: The Hypnotherapy Training Company involved extensive studies of both the practical and theoretical aspects of professional hypnotherapy. The course is thought to be one of the most comprehensive integrative Hypnotherapy training courses available internationally. As a result of my studies I have been awarded a Diploma in Hypnotherapy (D.Hyp) aswell as a Certificate in Hypnotherapy (CH) from the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH)
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, positive state that we all experience on a daily basis. The word Hypnosis comes from the Greek word “Hypnos”, which means sleep. Hypnosis is an open state of mind where the mind becomes very suggestible to change. Hypnosis is not sleep, it is a hightened state of focused attention whilst the mind is relaxing.
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is called a trance. The person's attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around the person is temporarily blocked out or ignored. In this naturally occurring state, a person may focus his or her attention - with the help of a trained therapist - on specific thoughts or tasks.
Hypnotherapy can help with depression, anxiety, stress, lack of confidence, smoking, weight control, insomnia, migraine, nail biting, obsessions, panic attacks, fears, phobias and much more. Hypnotherapy uses the application of hypnotic techniques to bring about therapeutic change and is a very pleasant and relaxing experience.
Hypnosis in its earliest form can be traced back as far as Ancient Egypt and Greece, the sick would use Sleep Temples where they would ingest herbs and rhythmically recite prayers before being taken to a sleep chamber in order to cure ailments.
The 18th century is where Hypnosis began its scientific history, Franz Anton Mesmer being one of the key figures of this time. Mesmer was an Austrian doctor who used Hypnosis to treat patients in France, Mesmer didn’t completely understand what he was doing and mistook Hypnosis as a force that flowed between him and his patients which he called ‘Animal Magnetism’. Mesmer was discredited after an investigation into ‘Animal Magnetism’ commissioned by King Louis XVI, although Mesmer’s method continued to interest medical practitioners.
One such practitioner, an English physician named James Braid studied the phenomenon that Mesmer achieved and in the mid 19th century coined the term Hypnosis and Hypnotism after the Greek God of sleep. Braid was regarded as the first true Hypnotist, opposing the claims of Mesmerists that the effects they achieved were due to the invisible force of Animal Magnetism. Braid believed that Hypnosis was a nervous sleep state, but later realised that actually it was a focused attention to a single dominant idea ‘Monoideism’. The rest of this century Hypnosis drew more and more attention from the scientific community with the likes of Sigmund Freud and Pavlov using and investigating Hypnosis through to the 20th Century.
Probably the biggest influence to Hypnosis within the 20th Century was Milton Erickson. Erickson was an American Psychiatrist and Psychologist who specialised in medical Hypnosis. He is credited with developing the use of indirect suggestion within Hypnotherapy to a far greater extent than earlier practitioners. Erickson believe that the unconscious mind was always listening whether or not a patient was in trance. Erickson also established and developed many of the protocols and techniques that are still used by Hypnotists of today.
Almost every person can be Hypnotised to some degree, as long as they have normal cognitive function. However the depth of the Hypnotic state is different from person to person.
No! is the answer and the reason for this is because hypnosis is perfectly natural. If left without prompt from the Hypnotist you would simply return to a normal state.
No! You are actually always in control when you are in a state of Hypnosis. If the Hypnotist were to give you a suggestion that you morally disagreed with, you would be able to either refuse to go along with it, or you would simply wake yourself up from the Hypnotic Trance by yourself.
Hypnosis is a subjective experience not everyones experiences are the same, although statistically around 70% of people remember their Hypnotic experience and around 30% don't recall or completely forget everything. Hypnosis can be compared to watching a film, you won't necessarily remember the film word for word but you will recall enough to know what happened in the film.

I offer Hypnotherapy sessions at my therapy room, online and from the comfort of your own home. All sessions are 1hr (excluding the first 30 minute consultation and Smoking Cessation).
I use a range of approaches including Behavioural Hypnotherapy for habit change, Cognitive Hypnotherapy to help change limiting beliefs, Analytical Hypnotherapy for insight and subconscious change, Regression Therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
As a highly trained and skilled Hypnotherapist, I have no need for generic scripts. Every person is unique and responds differently within Hypnosis. Each session will focus positively on your goal and will be individually tailored to you.
Hypnotherapy is powerful and utilises many different techniques to work with the subconcious mind. These techniques work with the subconscious mind's ability to change and develop new ways of responding. A Hypnotherapy session may include one or more beneficial approaches, including the use of Behavioral Hypnotherapy. This focuses on how you act and behaviour, whether it is to stop doing something and start doing something else instead or to simply develop new positive responses. An example would be to be able to stop procrastinating and to start completing the tasks on your 'to do' list.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is also employed. It is great for limiting beliefs, such as, 'I can't' or 'I'm not good enough', which are common examples of limiting beliefs that lots people experience on a daily basis. Hypnotherapy can help you identify unhelpful beliefs and easily change these to more positive and healthy ways of thinking.
Analytical Hypnotherapy works at a deeper level and is popularly used for those, 'I don't know' moments. Many people experience these moments, almost like an impulse. Despite there not seemingly be a conscious reason for the behaviour or action, hypnotherapy can work with the subconscious mind to gain insight and promote positive change.
Regression therapy is an approach that focuses on resolving significant past events believed to be interfering with your present mental and emotional wellness.
Within Regression Therapy we focus on areas of conflict and other potentially negative aspects in your life with a goal of isolating the causes of negative emotions and determining their cause in order to better address them.
Neuro-linguistic programming is a way to help you to change your thoughts/behaviors and achieve desired outcomes that you may have.
Unlike Hypnosis, NLP techniques utilise the concious mind and uses perceptual, behavioral, and communication techniques to make those changes easier with a positive perspective.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy is an approach that helps you identify irrational beliefs and negative thought patterns that may lead to emotional or behavioral issues. Once these patterns have been identified I will help you develop strategies to replace them with more rational thought patterns.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.
Some events, like an accident, disaster, violence or abuse, are so overwhelming that our memories are not stored properly; they remain unprocessed and are not filed away. This means that they are easily accessible and more things can trigger the traumatic memory, causing it to ‘replay’. This means that individuals keep reliving the distress the have experienced.
Acceptance and commitment therapy is a mindful approach to accept hardships to improve overall quality of life.
Acceptance and commitment therapy is a form of psychotherapy a little like cognitive-behavioral therapy that helps you focus on the present and move forward from overwhelming, difficult emotions.
The goal of this therapy is to diffuse negative thinking and unnecessary emotional dwelling.
Engaging in hypnotherapy can help you alleviate unwanted symptoms, develop helpful thoughts and behaviours and gain greater insight in many different aspects of your life. These are some of the key areas where hypnotherapy can help, although if you wish to discuss any other issues, please do contact me, so we can discuss how best to help you.
Whether you smoke cigarettes, a pipe or a vape. Hypnotherapy can help you to stop or reduce your smoking habit. Quiting smoking can be a real challenge, Hypnosis can help to ease that challenge and help you to stay fully motivated to continue not smoking.
Most cases of Smoking are not addictions, instead they tend to be very strong habits which have been learned over time by your subconcious mind. By accessing your subconcious mind Hypnosis can make new habit pathways taking you from the struggle to stop smoking to not even wanting a smoke at all.
Single Session Cessation: 2hr Session, £350.
Phased Reduction: Normal £85 session rate applies.
Stress is a natural part of life. Without stress, you would not be motivated to eat, work, have relationships, or get out of bed in the morning. It is when the amount of stress builds past the point of being comfortable, that most people start suffering from the symptoms of over stress and the body will enter the 'Fight or Flight' response.
'Fight or Flight' is an automatic nervous survival mechanism which enables us to react quickly when our life is in danger. The hormonal changes and physiological responses that occur in the body help us to run away to safety as quickly as possible or have the strength to fight against the threat. Unfortunately, the body can also overreact to stressors that are not life-threatening, such as traffic jams, work pressure, and family difficulties.
Within Hypnotherapy we are able to use the sub-concious mind in order to create a new healthier way to respond when faced with these non life-threatening situations.
Anxiety is an emotion which forms part of our natural fight or flight response and generally serves to protect us from harm. But, when this emotion is frequent it can begin to interfere with your ability to function on a daily basis.
Hypnotherapy can help to get to the root of the issue, even if you are unsure of the cause yourself. By utilising the subconscious mind we are able to create a new way to respond, a sense of calm and clarity of thought for those who experience Anxiety interfering within their day.
Hypnotherapy for Weight Management sessions help you to feel more confident about your body and release negative and unhelpful thoughts and feelings about eating. You will learn how to manage your weight responsibly, and develop a more positive mindset and greater emotional well-being.
Whether you are looking to lose, gain healthily, or sustain a chosen weight, by targeting the unconscious mind with powerful suggestion techniques, we can work together to help you develop a positive relationship with food and exercise, which is truly the key to healthy long-term weight management.
Fear is a natural and healthy response we all have to danger. It’s a survival instinct designed to help us avoid and escape threatening situations.
Phobias, however, are different. Phobias are more intense than fears. They can lead to severe anxiety and panic attacks for some people.
Phobias develop when you have an exaggerated or unrealistic fear surrounding a certain situation or object. If this situation or object is common in day-to-day life, a phobia could restrict your life and hold you back from doing what you want to do, sometimes causing a lot of distress.
Many phobias exist in our subconscious and are learned responses. This makes them particularly vulnerable to hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can help you unlearn the fear response, build up your exposure to the phobia and in time ease the associated anxiety
